How many of my fellow job seekers are in this situation? You apply for a position, you get an email that they would like to set up an interview and tell you to reach out to their HR/hiring person/consultant to set up the next steps? The company seems to exist, but this seems like a scam. Am I just jaded by my search?

One i received used outlook emails - so that one was easy. THe other one used what appears to be a company email, but there's something about the email. Calling the company is a good idea.A few months ago, I had someone pretending to be a person in a particular company - so looking to see if they exist on the site doesn't always work. thanks for the ideas.

A quick Google search with the company name followed by the word "scam" And in any event, be very careful about giving out your personal information/SSN.

Depends on what “reach out” means. Click a link to schedule a time or provide availability? Pretty standard but scrutinize the link significantly. The email should be sent by a person. Confirm the person on LinkedIn. Make sure the link URL makes sense. Company name + greenhouse or lever or other ATS that allows self service scheduling. Reach out mean email them and ask for a time? Nah, that’s weird. Would assume scam.

I can't imagine a company contacting you about a job and telling up to reach out to someone else to get out scheduled. That sounds shady at best and even if it is a legit company, I wouldn't want to work for them.

I had a company, yet a HR who’s supposed to call me, we set a date and time and never got back to me. I sent emails, and called … nothing …

Check the email that sent you the invite. Also, research the person(s) names in LinkedIn or just google. I’ve had a few that I had to run by Jamie Edwards myself where it was like um…this doesn’t jive…and he was able to point out some things i missed. Good luck!

I had two that wanted to interview over an audio Skype call. No red flags there.

Check the email addresses used. Verify via company website. Call their office if you have to and report that you received a scam.

This hit to my core. How many of us are unemployed and struggling silently because we don't want to burden our village?

I know we have a lot of back-and-forth and finger-pointing on the topic of ghosting. This is not that post. I do not think it's worth it to shame anyone, because they probably won't change. So let's do a positive post.I want to thank Essity for letting me know the timeline and letting me know I would not be continuing in the process within that. Disappointed, absolutely, BUT, would I apply for another position, if appropriate - YES!What companies have given you timely communication about your status?

Jamie Edwards is a true professional. I’d recommend anyone in my network to have a brief conversation with him.

Sometimes we forget to pause. It isn’t always all or nothing. We just have to build ourselves up again.

I had a yard sale over the weekend and made a few much needed bucks. As it is in life, I got something better than money that day. As I was straightening some items, I heard an older gentleman call me from his car. So I go over to find out what he needs. Apparently it is hard for him to get out of the vehicle so he wanted to know if I had any gold/ silver jewelry. I told him I only had costume. He asked about old watches. I told him I had a bunch but didn’t think they were old but I would get them for him to take look. He inspected them but they weren’t what he was loooking for. Then he looked right at me and said, “You’re a nice person. Stay that way.” I tell ya - right to my heart. So that’s what will keep my spirits up this week. 😀 Have a great week everyone.

Update: turning comments off as this is last weeks problem and leaving it back there. I appreciate all the comments and point of views. Oh! So angry right now. Just got off the call with a recruiter who said I shouldnt expect to make what I was making before I was laid off. I told them I have already lowered my expectations and cannot go lower. Please stop this! People have families to care for, we are not picking numbers randomly out of the air. Also stop trying to pay everyone a starting salary you want experience and certain education then be willing to pay for it.

This is so true. It’s a shame that not all leaders hear the silence
