Trader Joe's Cacay Oil Body Butter Review and Comparison to Beija Flor - Musings of a Muse (1)

You know I ran to my local store to pick up Trader Joe’s Cacay Oil Body Butter when I heard about it. But sadly, it wasn’t available and we were in Canada for a few days after my initial search so I was convinced I missed it. But yesterday, I happened about a pile at my store and I snatched one up! If you haven’t heard Trader Joe’s Cacay Oil Body Butter is their latest limited-edition Summer body butter that’s supposed to be a dupe for Sol de Janeiro Beija Flor Elastic-Cream. Yes, the package is giving off Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana vibes but it’s all Beija Flor.

Today I’m going to compare Trader Joe’s Cacay Oil Body Butter to Sol de Janeiro Beija Flor and you might just be surprised when you heard what I have to say about Trader Joe’s formula!

Let’s break it down!

Trader Joe’s Cacay Oil Body Butter comes in a dual-lidded jar that holds 8 ounces of body butter for $6.99. The body butters are normally $5.99 but prices has been going up across the board at TJ lately so, it comes as no surprise a buck was tacked into this latest release. This is a limited-edition release but I don’t doubt it’ll return next Summer and if it’s popular enough I’m sure we’ll see a body scrub and perhaps a body wash as well at some point. Brazil Nut, one of Trader Joe’s most popular body butters, started out as a body scrub and was later released in a host of different products!

I really like Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Collection. I think it smells quite nice and is fairly close to Sol de Janiro’s best-selling Cheirosa ’62 Fragrance but I never felt it was an exact dupe. Trader Joe’s Cacay Oil Body Butter is the complete opposite and gets does in fact smell like Beija Flor BUT…! Even better, it smells like Baccarat Rouge 540. And yes, everyone and their mom is convinced Beija Flor does smell like Baccarat Rouge 540 but I beg to disagree. I think the scents are similar for sure but Beija Flor is a lighter! I consider it a cousin to Baccarat Rouge 540. Trader Joe’s Cacy Oil Body Butter though is an almost exact duplication of BR540. It’s rich, warm, a little sweet, and the perfect companion to either Beija Flor or BR540.

P.S. She’s thick! This is a very thick body butter and it takes a little work to get it quickly absorbed. It leaves skin really hydrated and sort of gives that bouncy feel to your skin! And the scent lingers beautifully on skin! It can be annoying to get it fully absorbed but I love how my skin feels after! So smooth, so hydrated, and a bit bouncy to the touch! Love! I do think it has Sol de Janeiro’s formula absorbs a little more easier and the scent lasts just as long on my skin but I think I prefer how my skin feels after TJ’s formula is applied.

Below I compared the ingredients between the Trader Joe’s Cacay Oil Body Butter and Sol de Janeiro’s Beija Flor Elasti-Cream. They do share a lot of the same ingredients but it appears Sol de Janeiro has a few more butters like shea and cupuaçu where as Trader Joe’s doesn’t have these.

Sol de Janeiro Beija Flor Ingredients
Aqua (Water, Eau), Cetearyl Alcohol, Parfum (Fragrance), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isopentyldiol, Glyceryl Stearate, C13-16 Isoparaffin, Glycerin, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Cetyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Caryodendron Orinocense (Cacay) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Behenyl Alcohol, Squalane, Collagen Amino Acid, Theobroma Grandiflorum (Cupuaçu) Seed Butter, Copaifera Officinalis (Balsam Copaiba) Resin, Astrocaryum Vulgare (Tucumã) Kernel Oil, Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root Extract, Tocopherol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Heptyl Undecylenate, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Mica, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Salicylate, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide).

Trader Joe’s Cacay Oil Body Butter Ingredients:
WATER (AQUA), BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, BEHENYL ALCOHOL, CETYL ALCOHOL, GLYCERYL STEARATE, GLYCOL DISTEARATE, ISOPENTYLDIOL, C13-16 ISOALKANE (FORMERLY C13-16 ISOPARAFFIN), GLYCERIN, ARGANIA SPINOSA (ARGAN) KERNEL OIL, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, COCOS NUCIFERA (COCONUT) OIL, SQUALANE, TRIPEPTIDE-29, DAUCUS CAROTA SATIVA (CARROT) ROOT EXTRACT, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) EXTRACT, ORYZA SATIVA (RICE) BRAN EXTRACT, PYRUS MALUS (APPLE) FRUIT EXTRACT, ROSMARINUS OFFICINALIS (ROSEMARY) LEAF EXTRACT, CARYODENDRON ORINOCENSE (CACAY) SEED OIL, COPAIFERA OFFICINALIS (BALSAM COPAIBA) RESIN OIL, TOCOPHEROL, TETRASODIUM GLUTAMATE DIACETATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, HEPTYL UNDECYLENATE, PENTYLENE GLYCOL, POTASSIUM CETYL PHOSPHATE, XANTHAN GUM, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, FRAGRANCE, ALPHA-ISOMETHYL IONONE, BENZYL SALICYLATE

Obviously, the biggest difference between these two is the price. A 2.5 oz jar of Sol de Janeiro’s version is $22 and for $7 bucks you can get 8 oz of Trader Joe’s version. Trader Joe’s is absolutely the more affordable option. I do think Trader Joe’s version has a stronger fragrance and isn’t as soft as Beija Flor.

Trader Joe’s did a great job with Cacay Oil Body Butter and someone created a formula that’s even better than the original! I absolutely recommend checking this out at your local store. Let me know if you have already and what you think!
