At a time when the UK is focused again on how we can deliver a huge number of new #homes at speed, and with the opening of the #Paris2024Olympics, we take a look back at East Village 12 years on. While leading the #masterplan for what became the 2012 Olympic Village and subsequently East Village, we worked with more than a dozen other practices including Arup and West 8, and world-class landscape architects, to shape the new neighbourhood partly for its short-term function hosting 17,000 athletes and team members, but particularly with a focus on the place it would turn into afterwards. Reflecting on the experience 12 years on, Partner Jonathan Kendall who worked throughout the project observed, “The ‘normality’ of the district – red London buses travelling down main streets, kids scooting and cycling to school, informal picnics in a public park, metal railings and hedges defining street front gardens – is a precious and hard-won achievement,” adding, “to us, this has become a London #neighbourhood, not a #housing product.” Discover more on East Village and how it demonstrates an example of a thriving #community and #neighbourhood years on: https://lnkd.in/eZE-6uSK

Fletcher Priest Architects. Great project and delighted to have been on the team in some small capacity. I loved the idea of looking to the future for the project (and others on site) in legacy-mode.Well done to all involved.

How does a 15-year-old office building measure up to today's #sustainability and urban #wellness standards?🏢 🌿Located in the City of London, our design at 1 Angel Lane serves as the headquarters for the Japanese bank and clients Nomura. Completed in 2009, and at the time of its construction the largest single letting in the City, it offered 575,000sqft of NIA for more than 1,800 traders. The #retention of over 30% of the original structure and the #reuse of existing foundations, resulted in significantly reduced embodied carbon, waste, and construction cost and programme. Timber louvers within the innovative triple skin façade pivot to track to the sun’s movement throughout the day optimising shading and daylight to the varying external conditions. #Rooftop gardens spanning approximately 2,316 m² maximise #biodiversity, employee wellbeing, and promote engagement in the circular economy. A small but mighty rooftop vegetable garden of 100m² managed by staff volunteers, has been promoting biodiversity and providing a green retreat for employees, where up to 25 varieties of vegetables and flowers have been cultivated and used daily by the company chefs. There’s no food wastage here — any surplus is offered for sale to employees and profits donated to charity. It has also hosted thriving bee colony producing honey for the café and visitors since 2015 and a rare colony of orchids were seen growing for the first time in the UK since 1989. Now that’s circularity we can build on 🔄#SustainableArchitecture #GreenBuilding #CircularEconomy #RooftopGardens

Thank you to Moroso Spa and Kvadrat for an amazing evening of creativity, collaboration, and learning. Our interiors team recently visited the Moroso showroom, where we had the opportunity to work with a prototype of the Moroso Ruff armchair and upholster it using Kvadrat fabrics. It was great to mingle and connect with the team outside our usual work environment. Feeling inspired and connected, we're excited to bring this energy back to our projects. 🙌Lauren Thompson | Maria Kirstine NielsenRianna Reid | Elizabeth Lawson | Luis Linares Ambrosoni | Kate Hickey | Cansu Bal | Robyn Smith | Braydon O’Donnell | Aarti Mann | Seetul Ghattaora | Oliwia Tometczak | Prakash Varsani | Maricelis Ramos #InteriorDesign #Upholstery #FurnitureDesign

How can we ensure buildings today will stand resilient for the next century?🏗️💡 At our recent 'Building for 2150' #roundtable, we invited industry leaders to discuss the future of construction through the lens of longevity. The conversation highlighted the need for flexibility, balancing embodied carbon with long-term resilience, and shifting from demolition to retrofitting."To build for the future, we must prioritise flexibility and design buildings that can adapt to evolving environmental and functional demands," says Richard Hollingworth, Operations Director at M3 Consulting. The One Exchange Square site, where this round table was hosted, exemplifies these principles, retaining 90% of its structure and aiming for top sustainability certifications like BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Platinum. How is your organisation preparing for the future of construction? 🏢🌿Read the full breakdown of takeaways here: https://bit.ly/4f2fHBoThank you to our guests for their time and thoughtful contribution: Agatha Giauw MRICS, Associate Director at ; Frederic Schwass Development Manager at General Projects; Kerstin Kane, Local Authority from the City of London Corporation; Richard Hollingworth, Development Manager at M3 Consulting, plus a special thanks to our moderator, writer and editor Stacey Meadwell. The session was run in collaboration with ING Media and our team at Fletcher Priest: Nicholas Worley, Partner; Lucy Priest, Associate Partner and Joanna Wilson, Sustainability Lead.#FutureProofing #SustainableConstruction #Retrofitting

In a recent article, Building Magazine featured the PlanBEE programme, of which we are one of the founding London practices. This program provides young Londoners with a distinct opportunity to enter the built environment through six-week placements which prepare the apprentices for careers in architecture, engineering, building services, and construction/site management. Since its launch, PlanBEE has been supported by a consortium of more than 50 local and national businesses, including Fletcher Priest Architects.Watch the video featuring our apprentices Eliza Taylor and Joseph Mackenzie, as they share their firsthand experiences working on real-life projects with us at our London office:https://bit.ly/3UcE6vEPlanBEE (Built Environment Education)#PlanBEE #Apprenticeships #Architecture

Craving the Wimbledon tennis experience but without a ticket? Head down to our newly upgraded Wimbledon Quarter where every serve, rally, and match point is being broadcast under our very own sliding roof. The atrium’s existing roof has been replaced with a retractable ETFE roof, the first of its kind in the UK, improving daylight and cross ventilation. When opened, the atrium below is transformed into an open-air courtyard and event space. ‘Courtside at Wimbledon Quarter’ is where you can watch all the action of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships fortnight on the live 5-meter screen from deck chairs and bean bags, alongside summer snack classics. Find out more here: https://bit.ly/4byDBldLearn more about the masterplan and design of Wimbledon Quarter for Romulus here: https://bit.ly/4byDB4H#Wimbledon2024 #retailmasterplan #retractableroof
